July 6, 2007 (Insidermedicine) From Cincinnati US Health Authorities are urging people to “drain, dunk and protect” in order to reduce the risk of getting West Nile Virus. The virus which can cause nerve problems is carried by mosquitoes. Drain means to get rid of still water, dunk means to use envorinmentally friendly chemicals on water that cannot be drained and protect means to use bug repellant. From LA It is being called an “absolute breakthrough” for HIV/AIDS. The cocktail of experimental drugs Etravirine and recently-approved Prezista is highly effective for drug resistant HIV. FDA approval is expected soon for Etravirine. From Washington According to the CDC there have been nearly 20 reported cases of Salmonella aquired from playing with turtles. While the sale of turtles has been banned in the US for many years, many children still adopt them. Salmonella can cause diarrhea and vomiting and even death. Thorough handwashing is advised after contact. And finally, back to California New research shows that organic tomatoes may be healthier for you. Organic tomatoes are nearly twice as high in flavinoids which are known to lower blood pressure. For Insidermedicine in 60, I’m Dr. Susan Sharma.

This is so odd.. I was looking for a video about the salmonella bacteria found in tomatoes.. This video says.. stay away from turtles.. and eat more tomatoes!! I love tomatoes.. how’d they get infected with salmonella anyway, I’d been wondering why the roma tomatoes disspaered.. It is more likely in certain type of tomatoes.. You know they still don’t put chives in the food at taco bell.. because of the last recall. In 10 years there will be no food left.. ok maybe i’m exaggerating..Ilovetomato
Glad to see coverage of the turtle issue; if people knew turtles carried salmonella maybe they wouldn’t get them as pets in the first place!
