In my top ten of my tunes. A true treasure of a song.Only a few find it .
I LOVE this song! I have never heard Stanley’s solo version. He debuted this composition on Max Roach’s excellent (and tragically unappreciated) 1968 album “Members, Don’t Git Weary” (not a misspelling). That album IS still in print, thankfully. Stanley also composed my other favorite on that album “Effi”. “Effi” is like a raging volcano, then “Equipoise” follows it like a cool waterfall! I encourage any fans of Stanley to pick that album up, if you haven’t already!
i remember someone called “champasoundsystem” had a slightly “funkier” version of this tune in youtube. but anyway keep this up here, im constantly coming back.
This is one of the great jazz compositions of the past couple of decades. And wildly wildly neglected and under-appreciated! Stanley Cowell’s 1978 recording of this tune on Galaxy records (with Cecil McBee and Roy Haynes) desperately needs to be re-released. It makes me sad to hear this with such poor and unbalanced sound quality…
Stan, you’re the man!
